March Early Literacy Calendar

Every month, the children’s services staff of the St. Charles City-County Library District create an Early Literacy Calendar for the community. Each calendar includes fun, impactful early literacy activities that can help children develop the skills necessary to learn to read. These calendars emphasize talking, reading, writing, singing, and playing with the pre-readers in your life.

The March activities were compiled by the staff at the Kathryn Linnemann Branch in St. Charles. Use the calendar to make early literacy activities a part of your child’s daily routine!

Community Partnership Gives Readers The Chill!

Success has a simple foundation: Reading. The Library Foundation thinks so, and so does our very own St. Charles Chill professional hockey team! The Chill organization has partnered with us to promote our Take 20 and Read campaign for literacy and shares our belief that a community of strong readers is a strong community.

The Chill hockey players have taken the pledge and you can too! Take the pledge to spend 20 minutes (or more) reading each day. Read for yourself, read with your children, and let your children read to you. Together we can improve literacy in our community.

Taking the pledge is not just good for your brain, but it also has its rewards!  Library Foundation fans and Take 20 and Read participants can take advantage of an exclusive offer to see the St. Charles Chill play the Allen American’s on Sunday March 9th. Purchase your lower level tickets for just $10 (regular price $15)! Call 636-724-SHOT (7468) to order tickets at the Library Foundation rate!

The puck drops at 4:05pm at The Family Arena. In addition to exciting Chill hockey, fans can Chuck-A-Puck to benefit the St. Charles City-County Library Foundation that night. Our volunteers will sell foam pucks for $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00 through the end of the second period. During the second intermission, fans will throw their numbered pucks at targets for a chance to win cash and other prizes. Each puck you chuck benefit’s the Foundation’s Take 20 and Read campaign for literacy!
